NOTICE OF MEETING TO VOTE

ON TAX RATE

 

                                             PROPOSED TAX RATE ………………… $0.730490 PER $100

                                             NO-NEW-REVENUE TAX RATE…….  $0.685812 PER $100

                                             VOTER-APPROVAL TAX RATE……..  $0.714301 PER $100

                                             DE MIMIMIS TAX RATE……………….  $0.814536 PER $100

The no-new-revenue tax rate for the 2023 tax year that will raise the same amount of property tax revenue for the City of Prairie View from the same properties in the 2022 tax year.

The voter-approval rate takes last years M&O rate x 1.035 plus the new year debt service rate.

The de minimis rate is the rate equal to the sum of the no-new-revenue maintenance and operations rate for the City of Prairie View, the rate that will raise $500,000, and the current debt rate for the City of Prairie View. Voter approval is needed to adopt this rate.

The proposed tax rate is the same as last years tax rate.   This means that the City of Prairie View is not proposing to increase property tax rates for the 2023 tax year.  Your taxes can only increase if your taxable value increase.

THE FIRST PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED TAX RATE WILL BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2023 AT 6:00 PM.  THE SECOND PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED TAX RATE WILL BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2023 AT 5:30 PM BEFORE THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING. ALSO, CITY COUNCIL WILL VOTE ON A PROPERTY TAX RATE FOR 2023 AT THE  CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2023.  ALL MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE CITY OF PRAIRE VIEW CITY HALL LOCATED AT 44500 US HIGHWAY OLD 290 EAST, PRAIRIE VIEW, TEXAS 77446

 You may express your support for or opposition to the propose tax rate by contacting the members of the City of Prairie View at their offices or by attending the public meeting above.
